Meet the Houston Team Behind Sutton ADU Houston
When you build an ADU in Houston, you don’t get a rotating cast of subcontractors you’ll never see again. You get a named crew that knows your lot, your soil conditions, and your plumbing rough-in by heart. Our team has built backyard homes from Katy to Clear Lake, and the people below are the ones who show up, answer questions, and sign their work. We’re picky about who wears the Sutton name on a shirt. Here’s why.
Our People

Ray T. – Lead ADU Technician
Ray has been framing and finishing residential structures in the Houston area for 19 years, the last seven focused almost entirely on detached ADUs and garage conversions. He’s our go-to for lot assessments and foundation work, especially on the gumbo clay soil you find across Harris County, where pier depth and drainage make or break a project. Ray is certified in HardiePlank installation and has completed factory training with Abodu and Boxabl, so he can spot a panel issue before it becomes a wall issue. Off the clock, he rebuilds old Yamaha enduro bikes in his garage in Spring Branch, mostly because he likes taking things apart to see why they stopped working.
Maria S. – Senior ADU Installer
Maria started in residential carpentry in 2012 and joined Sutton ADU Houston in 2019 after spending three years on multifamily builds in the Heights. She leads our finish work: trim, door hanging, cabinet install, and the thousand small details that separate a tight build from a drafty one. Maria handles most of our James Hardie siding installations and has completed manufacturer training for Cover and Plant Prefab systems. She keeps a handwritten notebook of every project she’s worked on, with notes on what the homeowner asked about most, because she says people forget what you said but remember whether you listened. Her current project count at Sutton is over 40 ADUs and room additions across the greater Houston metro.
Devon K. – Service Coordinator
Devon is the voice on the phone when you call (940) 242-3207 and the person who makes sure your written price gets to you before any work starts. He’s been with the Threshold Group family of companies since 2015, starting in scheduling and moving into project coordination because he’s annoyingly good at remembering which permit office wants which form. Devon tracks every Sutton Houston project from first estimate through the 365-Day Done Right Promise window, which means he’s also the one who books the free second visit if something isn’t right. He lives in Pearland, coaches his daughter’s soccer team, and can tell you the fastest route to any permit office in Harris County without looking at a map.
Ana R. – Apprentice ADU Technician
Ana came to Sutton ADU Houston from a commercial framing crew in 2023, looking to learn the residential side of the trade. She’s currently working under Ray’s supervision on foundation prep, subfloor work, and Rough-in coordination, and she’s been through our internal training on Tuff Shed conversion standards. Ana grew up in Alief and asked to be assigned to projects on the southwest side of Houston because she wants to build in the neighborhoods she knows. She’s the one who labels every supply delivery and checks the hardware count twice before anything gets installed. In her view, a missing box of screws on day one is a three-day delay by day ten.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person above works under the same rule: the Threshold Standard. It’s not a slogan on a poster. It’s a written price before work begins, a background check and photo badge for everyone who steps onto your property, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, covering defects in workmanship for one full calendar year from project completion. If something fails, we send someone back. No haggling, no service fee, no argument. Miles Hartwell, Owner, set that standard for this location, and it holds whether the project is a $190,000 studio ADU or a full room addition. The crew doesn’t get to skip it because they’re behind schedule or the homeowner seems easygoing. That’s the point of having a standard: it applies when nobody’s watching.
