ADU Before & After in Houston, TX
Talk is cheap in this trade, and we both know it. A builder can tell you he does clean work, pulls permits, and shows up on time. But until you see a side yard that was once just mud and a dead patch of St. Augustine turn into a rent-ready one-bedroom, none of it means much. That’s why we keep a record of the transformations. A photo doesn’t lie the way a sales pitch can. These are real scenarios we handle across Houston, from Garden Oaks to Meyerland to the East End, and the before-and-after gap is where our 365-Day Done Right Promise actually lives.
Recent Transformations

Detached Backyard ADU in Garden Oaks
The problem: a long, narrow backyard with a 1970s shed sinking into clay soil. What we did: pulled the shed, engineered pier-and-beam foundation for Houston’s expansive gumbo clay, and set a 700-square-foot one-bedroom with a full bath and kitchenette. The result: a rentable unit with its own meter, a covered porch facing the main house, and zero impact on the existing home’s footprint. The owners now draw $1,600 a month from what used to be a place they stored old lawn equipment.
Garage Conversion ADU in Meyerland
The problem: a two-car garage in Meyerland that hadn’t held a car in a decade, with a slab floor cracked in three places and no insulation to speak of. What we did: saw-cut and repaired the slab, raised the floor assembly for flood-plain compliance after Harvey changed everything in this neighborhood, and framed out a studio with a galley kitchen and a stacked laundry closet. The result: a 480-square-foot unit the homeowner’s aging mother now lives in, steps from the back door and out of a second-story bedroom she could no longer climb stairs to reach.
James Hardie Clad Room Addition in Spring Branch
The problem: a family of five in a 1,900-square-foot ranch was bursting at the seams, and the “home office” doubled as a guest room and a dumping ground for school projects. What we did: built a 320-square-foot primary suite addition off the back, clad in James Hardie plank and trim to match the existing exterior so closely you’d never know where the old house stops and the new starts. The result: the parents finally have a bedroom with a door that closes, and the kids have the old primary. Nobody moved. That’s the point.
Prefab ADU Set in East End
The problem: a corner lot in the East End with a 12-foot side yard doing nothing but growing weeds. What we did: worked with the Abodu product line to set a compact one-bedroom unit, then handled the site work: utility trenching, a new sewer tap, and the concrete pad. We also built the steps and landing because the factory unit sat higher than the existing grade. The result: the homeowner now has a short-term rental that covers half her mortgage, and the postage-stamp lot finally earns its keep.
Room Addition Over a Slab in Oak Forest
The problem: an Oak Forest bungalow with a kitchen the size of a walk-in closet and a slab that had settled unevenly over six decades of Houston heat and rain. What we did: mudjacked and stabilized the existing slab, tied a new 240-square-foot kitchen and dining addition into it with engineered rebar dowels, and matched the original 1950s roofline pitch instead of slapping on a flat-roof box. The result: the house reads as if it was always that size. The owners check the drainage and the foundation every spring now, just to enjoy how little moved.
Tuff Shed Conversion to Home Office in Bellaire
The problem: a Bellaire homeowner bought a 10×16 Tuff Shed thinking it would make a cheap office, then discovered a shed with no insulation, no vapor barrier, and no electrical service is just a hot box in July. What we did: treated it like a real structure: raised the shed, built a proper floor system with a vapor barrier, insulated the walls and ceiling, ran electrical through a licensed sub-panel, and cut in a minisplit. The result: a year-round office with a proper window, a locking door, and a cool 72 degrees in August. The homeowner now works from home without sweating through his shirt by noon.
